The New York Yankees continue to blast their way to the top of the standings throughout the early portion of the 2026 MLB season, currently leading the American League at 8-3 and trailing only the reigning champion Los Angeles Dodgers (9-3) league-wide.
New York, however, is looking to rebound on Thursday after losing the middle game of the series against the Athletics 3-2 on Wednesday, and having now lost two of their past three games.
Through the opening stretch of the season, Jazz Chisholm Jr. has been part of the Yankees lineup each and every game, appearing in all 11 matchups played through Wednesday's slate.
The 28-year-old second baseman has logged 42 at-bats with eight hits, two doubles, and three RBIs. Chisholm has also added four stolen bases to his stat line.

However, Chisholm won't have a chance to improve his numbers on Thursday as he will not be in the Yankees' lineup, marking his first absence of the season.
According to the New York Post's Gary Phillips, Chisholm's removal from the lineup comes as a routine day of rest, rather than an injury-related decision.
Amed Rosario is stepping in at second base and hitting leadoff to make up for Chisholm's absence.
Thursday's matchup might also have played a role, with left-hander Jeffrey Springs starting for Oakland and giving left-handed-hitting Chisholm a chance to rest for a day.
The Yankees' infielder has only seen Springs once throughout his career, whiffing and striking out when they met on the field.
This season, Chisholm has posted a .190 batting average and .261 on-base percentage to begin the year. His .523 OPS sits way below his career mark of .765, and he has yet to hit a home run.
The first pitch for the Yankees-Athletics game is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. ET.
