The New York Yankees are preparing for the upcoming MLB season hoping their depth is strong enough to withstand the grind of a 162‑game schedule. The bullpen will carry added responsibility early in the year with Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon both set to open the season on the injured list.

As a result, New York needs as many usable arms as possible to begin the year. Unfortunately for the Yankees, one of those potential depth pieces was claimed by another organization on Tuesday. The club announced on X, “Earlier today, RHP Osvaldo Bido was claimed off waivers by the Atlanta Braves.”

This marks the end of Bido’s short stint in the Bronx. The Yankees claimed him off waivers in early February, and he spent the entirety of spring training with the team. The 30‑year‑old right‑hander delivered a strong performance across seven appearances, posting a 1.29 ERA with seven strikeouts in seven innings while allowing only one run.

Despite the solid showing, it was not enough to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster, and New York opted to go in a different direction. It is unclear when he was designated for assignment, but he will now join Atlanta for the upcoming season.

The Braves made the move due to a wave of injuries that has thinned their pitching depth, and they needed additional bullpen options while several starters recover. Bido has spent three seasons in MLB, making his debut in 2023 with the Pittsburgh Pirates before spending the last two years with the Athletics.

While he worked in relief for New York this spring, Atlanta may consider using him as a starter. Of his 58 career appearances, 28 have been starts.

Losing Bido may seem minor, but with the Yankees already stretched thin on the mound, every depth arm matters as they try to navigate the early weeks of the season. New York will open the 2026 MLB season against the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday at Oracle Park.
