The former New York Yankees ace CC Sabathia pitched for 11 seasons in the Bronx, ending his career with the club in 2019. With the Yankees, Sabathia earned three All-Star selections and a World Series title, posting a 134-88 record, a 3.81 ERA, and 1,700 strikeouts.
Despite a dominant career in the major leagues, Sabathia fought a long battle with substance abuse, which ultimately led to entering an alcohol rehab facility in 2015. Back then, Sabathia kept his struggles private until the days that led up to checking into the facility.
Since returning from rehab, Sabathia has accomplished plenty on and off the field.
The Yankees legend finished his career with 251 wins, 3,091 strikeouts and a 3.74 ERA over 19 MLB seasons. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2025, becoming just the 17th pitcher in MLB history to reach the 3,000-strikeout milestone and the 251-win mark.

Sabathia’s accomplishments in pinstripes were also recognized by the Yankees organization in September, when the organization retired his No. 52 and honored him with a plaque in Monument Park.
On Monday, Sabathia took to social media to share a milestone on his journey.
“11 years sober! One of the best decisions I ever made on this day in 2015. Grateful for everyone who has supported me along the way to regain control and wake up every day a better version of myself as a father, husband, and friend.”
The honors came nearly a decade after Sabathia made one of the most difficult decisions of his life and entered rehab.
Now 11 years later, Sabathia continues to be open about his recovery and the importance of asking for help.
“For anyone out there battling, just know you’re not alone and please speak up. There is a light at the end of the tunnel 🙏🏾.”
