The New York Yankees received a positive update on Carlos Rodón ahead of Sunday's series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers, as the veteran left-hander continues progressing in his recovery from left elbow inflammation.
According to the latest update from Greg Joyce of the New York Post, Rodón underwent a second round of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections on Friday after previously receiving a cortisone shot. He also completed a light 10-pitch throwing session, with the Yankees hoping he can advance to a full bullpen session later this week if he continues responding well.
Rodón has been sidelined since landing on the 15-day injured list on July 3, retroactive to June 30, because of left elbow inflammation. Sunday's update represents another encouraging step as New York works toward getting one of its top starters back later this season.
Before the injury, Rodón had delivered solid results despite an interrupted season. The 33-year-old owns a 4-2 record with a 3.30 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP and 52 strikeouts across 46.1 innings in nine starts after missing the opening weeks of the season following surgery to remove bone spurs from his elbow.
His most recent outing came on June 29 against the Boston Red Sox, when he allowed two runs over five innings before continued elbow discomfort led the Yankees to shut him down.

The timing of Rodón's recovery is significant for New York, which entered Sunday with a 54-43 record, sitting second in the American League East and two games behind the first-place Tampa Bay Rays. The Yankees have remained in the division race despite injuries affecting several key players throughout the season.
A healthy Rodón would provide a major boost to a rotation that has dealt with multiple setbacks this year. While the Yankees have not announced a timetable for his return, Sunday's update suggests he is moving in the right direction as the club eyes the stretch run and a potential postseason berth.
