The transition from June to July has not been kind to the New York Yankees. They're coming off back-to-back losses to the Minnesota Twins and are 1-9 in their last 10 matchups. At 49-40 overall, they're four games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for the lead in the American League East.
Of course, New York is dealing with a handful of injuries. Left-handed pitcher Carlos Rodon (15-day), left-handed pitcher Max Fried (15-day) and right fielder Aaron Judge (10-day) are all on the injured list. Second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. also left Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Twins with right big toe discomfort, but is only considered day-to-day.

While Chisholm didn't play the full game, he felt the sting of that loss and is well aware of the Yankees' current struggles. After losing to the Twins on Sunday, he spoke to reporters and acknowledged what is going on within the clubhouse.
“We just hate losing,” Chisholm said. “I mean, concern level is high because, you know, everyone is just trying to work on certain things every day and try to help the game and help the team win every day. When it’s not going well, it kind of sucks. So like a lot of guys are kind of tense, but at the same time we just got to remember who we are.”
The Yankees won't have much time to dwell on this disappointing stretch as they begin a crucial four-game series against the Rays on Monday. With the gap in the AL East continuing to grow, New York has the opportunity to claw back.
Chisholm's comments reflect clear frustrations within the clubhouse, but underline the team's belief they can turn things around. Putting together a series win against the Rays would be a major step in the right direction.
