Jazz Chisholm Jr. is in potentially his final season with the New York Yankees as he is set to hit unrestricted free agency this offseason. His third season in the Bronx has been up and down up until this point. The 28-year-old got off to a slow start but has performed better in the second half.
Across 134 games, Chisholm has posted a .232 batting average, .312 on-base percentage, .715 OPS, 19 home runs and 55 RBIs. He has also swiped 40 bags while being caught just nine times.
His availability for manager Aaron Boone has been valuable considering nearly every important position player in the Bronx has spent time on the injured list this season.

However, Chisholm’s availability is now uncertain moving forward. During Tuesday’s win over the Colorado Rockies, Chisholm departed the contest in the ninth inning and it was initially unclear what happened. Jose Caballero entered the game in his place at second base and finished the contest.
After the game, Boone announced the reason behind Chisholm’s early exit. He revealed that Chisholm hurt himself while sliding into second base in the top of the ninth inning, with his thumb immediately going numb after the play.
He was removed as a precaution and it remains unclear if further imaging will be required. “We’ll see what we have in the morning,” Boone said, per Peter Sblendorio of the NY Daily News.
If Chisholm goes down, Caballero could take over more permanently at second base with George Lombard Jr. continuing to operate as the primary shortstop.
The Yankees will hope that is not the case, especially given that superstar Aaron Judge just returned to the lineup on Tuesday and the team is finally starting to get healthy at the right time. The hope is that when Chisholm comes in on Wednesday, Boone will have a positive report on his condition.
