New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. has had a rough couple of days. Chisholm was ejected from Sunday's series finale against the Boston Red Sox after slamming his helmet into the dirt, a reaction that drew backlash from Yankees fans and former teammate Anthony Rizzo.

Then during Monday's series opener against the Detroit Tigers, Chisholm once again did not make it to the late innings, this time due to an unfortunate injury.

While attempting to catch a fly ball in short right field during the bottom of the fourth inning, Chisholm collided with teammate Jasson Dominguez as both went for the ball.

Dominguez made the catch and was not injured, but Chisholm immediately fell to the ground, unable to get up on his own. He stayed down for a couple of minutes before a trainer and manager Aaron Boone came out to check on him.

He eventually walked off the field under his own power, leaving the game early. Oswaldo Cabrera entered in his place.

Moments later, the Yankees provided an update on Chisholm's condition.

"Jazz Chisholm Jr. was removed from tonight’s game after colliding with Jasson Domínguez. He was examined by Dr. Christopher Ahmad and is currently going through concussion protocol.," the team wrote.

This is yet another unfortunate setback in what has already been a difficult year for Chisholm. He has actually been healthy this season, which is notable considering he battled plenty of injuries prior to joining the Yankees during the 2024 trade deadline.

However, even with that availability, his offensive production has fallen well below his standards. The 28-year-old two-time All-Star has posted a .223 batting average, .306 on-base percentage, .706 OPS, 12 home runs and 33 RBIs across 80 games.

The timing could not be worse for Chisholm personally either, as he is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. A concussion is never something to take lightly, and the Yankees will likely proceed with caution given how scary the collision looked.
