The New York Yankees will have to battle without Aaron Judge when the MLB postseason begins.
After missing three months with a stress fracture in his right rib, Judge returned to the field and suffered a right calf strain. The Yankees placed him on the 10-day injured list last Friday, casting doubt around his status for the playoffs.
“I don’t have a timeline on it,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said last weekend. “I can’t predict anything. … I mean, we have no idea, we’re in the early stages. We’ll just obviously treat it and see what transpires. Hopefully, we can have him be an option at some point.”
Speaking to the media Tuesday afternoon, Boone announced that Judge is likely out for the AL Wild Card Series against the Boston Red Sox.
“We’re planning on him not being a part of that,” Boone told reporters.

Will Aaron Judge return soon?
According to MLB reporter Joel Sherman, there’s a good chance we’ve seen the last of Judge this season regardless of how far the Yankees go in the playoffs.
“There’s some strong possibility that Aaron Judge doesn’t play anymore this season,” Sherman said.
If Judge is truly out for the Yankees, their chances of winning a World Series title dip dramatically. You just can’t replace a three-time MVP who can change the game at any moment with one swing.
