WWE is loading up the first-ever Sunday Night’s Main Event, and the September 6 special is already shaping up to be one of the biggest editions of the series.
Cody Rhodes will battle Randy Orton in Atlanta, while two of WWE’s most heavily featured young stars, Bron Breakker and Oba Femi, will collide in a match explicitly built around the future of the company.
Sunday Night’s Main Event will stream live from State Farm Arena in Atlanta on Sunday, September 6 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. The show will air on Peacock in the United States and YouTube internationally.

More matches and segments are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton Renew Their Rivalry
Rhodes and Orton have been intertwined since before WrestleMania. Orton made his surprise return at SummerSlam and delivered an RKO to his former Legacy protégé, helping prevent Rhodes from regaining the Undisputed WWE Championship from CM Punk.
Their issues escalated on the August 14 episode of SmackDown, with Orton attacking Rhodes before his scheduled match against Sami Zayn and sparking a brawl throughout TD Garden. SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis subsequently made their match official for September 6.
The location adds another layer to the match. Sunday Night’s Main Event takes place in Rhodes’ hometown of Atlanta, giving WWE an obvious marquee attraction for the special.
Bron Breakker vs. Oba Femi Will Showcase WWE’s Future
If Rhodes and Orton represent WWE’s established main-event class, Breakker and Femi could represent what comes next.
After weeks of tension between the two powerhouses, Paul Heyman announced their match during Monday Night Raw, framing the showdown around determining the future of WWE.
That is significant positioning for two wrestlers WWE has invested heavily in. Femi’s rise included defeating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania and again inside Hell in a Cell at SummerSlam, while Breakker has remained one of Raw’s centerpiece young stars.
Putting them opposite each other doesn’t feel like WWE simply filling out an SNME card. It’s a chance to present two potential faces of the company’s next era against one another while both are still ascending.
WWE Is Treating Sunday Night’s Main Event Like a Major Event
Everything about the promotion for September 6 suggests this will be more than another television special.
Triple H’s promotional material for the event prominently features Trick Williams alongside Atlanta rapper Lil Yachty, a fitting display given a large part of WWE’s target demographic in Atlanta.
The advertising has also adopted gold presentation reminiscent of the promotion WWE used around John Cena’s final match, giving the show a distinctly premium feel.
There is also little competition for attention on WWE’s September calendar. With no traditional main-roster PLE scheduled for the month, Sunday Night’s Main Event effectively occupies that space.
WWE may still technically classify it as a television special, but between Rhodes vs. Orton, Breakker vs. Femi, the celebrity involvement and the presentation surrounding the event, September’s Sunday Night’s Main Event is increasingly being treated like a PLE in everything but name.
