CM Punk and Cody Rhodes enter WWE SummerSlam with momentum after defeating Sami Zayn and Gunther in the main event of Saturday Night's Main Event at Madison Square Garden.
The fast-paced tag team match erupted into chaos down the stretch when SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis cost Gunther and Zayn the match before striking Gunther with the WWE Championship and walking away with a smirk. After weeks of escalating tension, all signs now point to Aldis and Gunther meeting in a singles match at SummerSlam.
As a result, the WWE Championship Match will remain a singles contest.

WWE SummerSlam 2026 takes place over two nights on Saturday, Aug. 1 and Sunday, Aug. 2, live from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Both nights begin at 6 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT. In the United States, the event streams live on ESPN Unlimited, while international viewers can watch on Netflix in most markets.
