For most of its history, Saturday Night’s Main Event has followed a familiar formula.
From its debut in 1985 through its various revivals, the show has traditionally been built around male stars, headline feuds, and championship programs that reflected WWE’s top priorities at the time. The structure was predictable in one key way: men’s matches drove the card, and everything else filled in around them.
That wasn’t accidental. It mirrored the hierarchy of WWE itself.
But this week’s Saturday Night’s Main Event XLIV doesn’t follow that pattern.
It remains to be seen whether a women’s match will close the night—my guess is the World Tag Team Championship gets that spot. But for viewers and fans in attendance, one thing will be clear:
You won’t be able to miss the women this Saturday.
