WWE 2K26 is a next-gen-only follow-up to 2K25, with a CM Punk-fronted Showcase, new match types, a revamped live-service structure via Ringside Pass, and deeper modes across the board. Visually it is the most impressive version of the game and it boasts a roster of 400+ WWE Superstars. Here's a breakdown of everything you should know about the game.
When Does WWE 2K26 Release?
We're less than a month away from early access. The Standard Edition launches globally on March 13, 2026, while players who grab one of the three premium editions — King of Kings, Attitude Era, or Monday Night War — get in up to seven days early on March 6, 2026.
Pre-orders opened on January 30, 2026, and there are limited-time pre-order bonuses available through February 23. If you're on the fence about which edition to grab, the breakdown below should help.

What Platforms Will It Be Available On?
Sorry PS4 and Xbox One fans. WWE 2K26 is fully next-gen-only — the first in the franchise to drop last-gen support entirely. The game launches on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (Steam).
The Switch 2 version includes some platform-specific features like touchscreen and mouse support, GameShare and GameChat, single Joy-Con gameplay, and mouse controls in the Creation Suite for face and body painting. The Switch 2 version also supports Image Uploader and cross-platform Community Creations for the first time. One thing to note: the physical release on Switch 2 is a code-in-box card, not a traditional game cartridge.
What Are the New Gameplay Updates and Match Types?
Thank you, Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre. They helped usher in 3 Stages of Hell.
WWE 2K26 brings a significant overhaul to core gameplay systems, and the changes should be felt from the moment the bell rings. Here's what's new:
The Reversal Revamp ties reversals directly to stamina. Run out of gas, and you can't reverse at all — which punishes overly aggressive playstyles and forces smarter pacing. AI logic has also been improved, with superstars now chaining from signatures to finishers using full custom move sets.
Match openings now give you choices: go for a handshake, refuse the handshake, hit a cheap shot, trade blows, chain wrestle, or rush your opponent. It's a small thing, but it adds a layer of presentation that the franchise has been building toward.
On the weapons and environment side, stackable tables, thumbtacks, and shopping carts are now in play. Weapon physics have been upgraded so you can drop opponents onto objects like steel chairs and steel stairs without an invisible wall breaking the fall.
Expanded crowd combat and barricade combat push the action further outside the ring. Entrance interactions have also been expanded — three preset animations per superstar archetype, plus the ability to trigger fireworks on the ramp or in the ring.
As for new match types, there are four additions:
- I Quit Match — A submission and KO-focused match with mic-spot presentation.
- Inferno Match — The ring apron is engulfed in flames with a burnout damage meter. Kane's signature.
- 3 Stages of Hell — A chained match series where you go first to two falls, each fall a different match type.
- Dumpster Match — Similar to the Casket/Ambulance format, but with a dumpster and more weapon/environmental focus.
The total match-type count now sits at 33+, with intergender matches and the custom match creator both carrying over from 2K25.
Who Is in the Game and New to the Roster?
We know about Torrie Wilson and a few others, but based on what we've heard, Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy are virtual locks. The full roster clocks in at 400+ playable characters — the biggest in franchise history — spanning current superstars, legends, and alternate personas across multiple eras.
Key confirmed names include The Rock, Triple H, John Cena, Trish Stratus, Rey Fénix, Rusev, and Blake Monroe. Notable first-timers and debuts include Joe Hendry (pre-order bonus), Zaria, Blake Monroe, Ricky Saints, Myles Borne, Izzi Dame, and Rey Fénix.
Legends from the Attitude Era and Monday Night War packs — The Rock '99, Kane '98, Chyna '97, Triple H '98, Stephanie McMahon '00, Shawn Michaels DX, Macho Man Randy Savage '98, and Rowdy Roddy Piper '98 — are locked behind specific editions or DLC.
Additional superstars will be rolled out through the Ringside Pass seasons over the course of the game's content cycle.
Who Is the Theme of the 2K Showcase and How Does It Work?
CM Punk is the theme, which means AJ Lee is also returning to the franchise. Punk is both the cover star and the narrator of this year's 2K Showcase, titled "Punked." The mode spans 25+ years of Punk's career with WWE-aligned matches, rivalries, and "what if" fantasy scenarios — including matches against opponents Punk never actually faced and situations that might have played out differently had he not left WWE in 2014.
The structure works match-by-match, with objectives recreating big moments, blending in-engine footage with archival clips, all narrated by Punk himself.
For players who want to skip the individual match structure, there's a new Gauntlet option — a 20-opponent gauntlet playable as either CM Punk or AJ Lee that unlocks all Showcase rewards in one run, including characters, arenas, and attires.
The Ringside Pass Explained — What's New in MyFaction?
Fans are set to get more than before, but it may take a while for most to realize it. The Ringside Pass is WWE 2K26's biggest structural change — a seasonal battle pass-style system that replaces the traditional season pass DLC model entirely. It works with 60 free tiers and 40 premium tiers, and XP is earned across nearly all modes: Play Now, Universe, MyRise, Showcase, MyGM, MyFaction, and The Island (except online lobby).
There are six seasons total across the game's content cycle. Premium Seasons 1-4 include 16+ new DLC superstars, personas, arenas, cosmetics, and MyFaction cards. The King of Kings Edition includes Season 1, the Attitude Era Edition includes Seasons 1-4, and the Monday Night War Edition includes all six seasons plus the WrestleMania 42 Pack. Superstars who would normally be unlocked through gameplay will now be available in the first Ringside Pass free tier.
On the MyFaction side, the mode now includes intergender matches, a new Quick Swap fast-paced team-based mode, new card designs, MyFaction chemistry and run-in support. The Attitude Era pack's Stone Cold "Rattlesnake" and The Rock "People's Champ" EVO cards integrate directly into MyFaction for players who grab those editions.
What's New in Universe Mode?
The sandbox mode gets more toys. The headline addition is the WWE Draft — the first time it's appeared in the game in over a decade. On top of that, there's a new Universe Creation Wizard that lets you build your custom shows from the ground up, additional Promo types to add more drama to rivalries, a Watch Show mode for pure sim experiences, and improved Money in the Bank cash-ins.
Playing Universe also contributes XP toward leveling the Ringside Pass, so there's now a tangible reward loop for sandbox players. CAS save slots have been doubled to 200, giving you more room to populate your universe with custom creations.
What's New in Create?
Updated hairstyles, more props, and tons more is on the way. The Creation Suite in WWE 2K26 gets a significant expansion. Custom image slots jump from 1,000 to 2,000, and Create-A-Superstar save slots go from 100 to 200. You're also getting deeper body and face morphing tools, 2-tone hair color blending, and expanded options for arenas, championships, entrances, victory motions, and renders.
Community Creations has been improved, and the Switch 2 version adds mouse controls in the Creation Suite for precision face and body painting. CM Punk and Showcase-specific creation parts and alternate attires are unlockable through the Showcase mode and Ringside Pass tiers, giving creators even more to work with.
Is MyRise, MyGM and The Island Returning?
A brand-new story is a given, along with more tools for the booking-only mode, and could this be the year The Island takes a major step?
MyRise returns with two new division-based storylines where your choices — heel or babyface — directly impact the narrative. The biggest change is that you can now keep playing after the main storylines are complete, with post-main-path RISE matches against Superstars and Legends, plus unlockable content and achievements to earn. Your MyRise progress also feeds XP into the Ringside Pass.
MyGM is back with more cross-brand PLEs, support for intergender matches, 5, 6, and 8-man matches, more match types than ever (including the new I Quit and 3 Stages of Hell), 50-week seasons, and a new harder AI difficulty setting. The added depth in roster management and match variety should give this mode more legs than previous years.
The Island returns with a revamped progression environment, a new Scrapyard Brawl area, new quests and live events, and full integration with Ringside Pass rewards. For the first time, The Island is also available on PC. Emotes from the various edition packs — Triple H's Signature Taunt, Undertaker's Thumb Across the Neck, Shawn Michaels' DX Crotch Chop, and DDP's Bang — are all usable in The Island.
As more information is released and we get closer to the release date, we'll have more details on the upcoming game including a full review.
