The Las Vegas Aces picked up their 26th win of the year after defeating the Toronto Tempo, 88-78, on Sunday. The defending champions traveled to Rogers Arena to face one of the two expansion teams this season.
A’ja Wilson led the Aces with a near triple-double of 27 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. The reigning WNBA MVP also added two steals and one block. Jackie Young contributed 21 points, three rebounds and five assists for Las Vegas.
Kia Nurse was the leading scorer for the home team with 19 points along with four rebounds and four assists. Kiki Rice had 14 points, while Isabelle Harrison scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
However, tensions were high with around seven minutes left in the second quarter. Aces guard Mai Yamamoto stole the ball from the nine-year veteran off the weak side. Harrison didn’t seem to like the play, so she shoved Yamamoto away.
Chelsea Gray had some words for the Tempo forward after the altercation. Harrison was slapped with a technical foul because of the extra motion.
The 6-foot-5 forward will have to pay a fine after receiving her first technical foul of the season. According to WNBA rules, a player shall pay a $500 fine for each of their first three technical fouls. A $1,000 fine is applied for the player’s fourth through seventh techs. The eighth technical foul will be punishable with a $1,500 fine and a one-game suspension.
Toronto has struggled in its first season in the WNBA. They currently have an 11-26 record and have already been eliminated from playoff contention.
