Another on-court drama ensued during the Indiana Fever’s game against the Chicago Sky, with both teams entering the matchup needing a win for different reasons. Indiana was trying to respond after consecutive losses, while Chicago was already dealing with absences to veteran guard Skylar Diggins and promising rookie Sydney Taylor.
The Sky were also asking more from DiJonai Carrington, who had scored eight points in the opening three minutes before the game took a turn late in the first quarter.
With Indiana and Chicago going back and forth on offense, Carrington was disqualified after a hard foul on Sophie Cunningham during a transition layup. The foul was upgraded to a Flagrant 2 following review.

The incident occurred with 1:59 remaining in the first quarter. Carrington made heavy contact with Cunningham’s head, and the Fever guard was visibly upset after the play.
While Carrington was given her marching orders, the incident could lead to additional discipline from the WNBA. Under the league’s 2026 rules, a Flagrant 2 carries two flagrant points and a $1,000 fine, while a player with three accumulated points who receives a Flagrant 2 is automatically suspended for two games. The Commissioner also has discretion to impose additional fines or suspensions after an ejection or altercation.

Cunningham and Carrington were seen exchanging words after the play. The Sky forward also reacted to the incident on Threads after the incident, writing “WHITE PRIVILEGE,” a post that could draw additional scrutiny from the league under its conduct rules.
The WNBA will now determine whether the Flagrant 2 warrants any punishment beyond the automatic fine.
