Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream couldn't make it two in a row on Friday night, falling to 19-12 on the 2026 WNBA season after a 79-74 loss to Sonia Citron and the Washington Mystics. The Dream were coming off an impressive 96-82 win on Wednesday over Alyssa Thomas and the Phoenix Mercury.
Guard Allisha Gray led Atlanta with 26 points on 11-of-23 shooting, six rebounds and two assists, while Shakira Austin led the Mystics with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
But Reese, coming off her third All-Star appearance, struggled heavily from the field despite her 16 rebounds, scoring seven points on a measly 1-of-12 shooting. The former LSU Tigers and Chicago Sky star also added two assists and two steals.

With the loss, the Dream dropped to 19-12 on the year, putting them in a three-way tie for fourth place in the league with the Dallas Wings and the Indiana Fever. And as Atlanta awaits the results of Friday's matchup between the Wings and Golden State Valkyries, another team has been eliminated from the WNBA playoffs.
Thanks to the Dream's loss on Friday, the Seattle Storm have now become the first team to be eliminated from WNBA contention. Sitting at 6-27 with 11 games left, the Storm can no longer catch the Mystics in the standings, who moved to 18-12 with the win over Atlanta.
Seattle has certainly had a season to forget in 2026, currently riding a 10-game losing streak as Saturday's matchup against the Portland Fire approaches. But the Storm have enjoyed the emergence of second-year center Dominique Malonga, who is averaging 16.9 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.
"The Seattle Storm have been eliminated from playoff contention with the Washington Mystics’ win today," ESPN's Alexa Philippou wrote on X.
Reese and the Dream will look to avoid a two-game losing streak on Monday when they face the Toronto Tempo at 8:00 p.m. ET.
