WNBA guard Natasha Cloud is facing backlash for her "classless" remark to a bald referee during the middle of a regular season game.
The Chicago Sky hosted the Indiana Fever on Saturday. While the controversy between Sophie Cunningham and DiJonai Carrington made most of the headlines, Cloud - a longtime WNBA veteran - had a viral moment during the regular season game, as well.
The 34-year-old WNBA guard was hit with a technical foul in the fourth quarter of Indiana's victory over Chicago. Immediately after getting hit with a technical foul, Cloud trashed the WNBA referee for his appearance. She made fun of him for being bald.
"(Expletive) bald head!" she could be seen saying in a video posted online.
It's one thing to be upset with a call, but it's crossing the line to make fun of someone's appearance. Bald people have feelings, too!
WNBA fans and others are criticizing Cloud for her remarks, pushing for her to apologize for what she said.
Cloud faces backlash for what she said
"This has to be satire at this point because this can’t be real? LOL," one fan wrote.
"She should apologize. This is just disrespectful," one fan added.
"See..I couldn’t be a ref because I would’ve ejected her for this," one fan added.
"Why are all of these chicks so nasty, vile and hateful? You’re not only being disgusting to other people but you’re also bringing utter shame to the sport. A pro athlete is supposed to be a role model that kids can look up to and aspire to be. Now they just spread a vitriol hatefulness. So gross," one fan added.
Cloud was rightfully hit with a technical foul earlier in the game, but perhaps she should've faced further discipline for her remarks to the veteran WNBA referee during the regular season game.
