New York Liberty forward Satou Sabally played in just 13 games in the 2026 season due to a head injury. She last played against the Las Vegas Aces on June 23, during which she suffered a concussion.
While there was initially hope that she would be able to return, the Liberty eventually ruled her out for the rest of the campaign on Sept. 3. Her injury designation was also changed from “concussion” to a “head” injury prior to the season-ending announcement.
Furthermore, Sabally wasn’t able to join Germany in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in September, which was a disappointing turn of events since the country hosted the competition.
Sabally averaged 10.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists in her limited appearances for the Liberty.

Despite her injury situation, however, it seems Sabally is on track to return to action soon. On Monday, Unrivaled announced that the Liberty star will play in the 2027 season of the 3-on-3 tournament.
In a social media post, Unrivaled revealed that Sabally signed a multi-year deal with the league.
“Satou Sabally is Unrivaled,” Unrivaled wrote. “Satou returns for season three on a multi-year deal.”
It’s certainly an encouraging development for Sabally, especially since there were plenty of concerns about her future as an athlete after suffering a head injury in back-to-back seasons.
The 2027 Unrivaled season will kick off on Jan. 8, 2027. As for Sabally’s team, it will be decided through a draft conducted by the coaches of the eight competing clubs in the tournament.
