WNBA star A’ja Wilson is being warned that even though she felt disrespected in Game 2 in Indiana, her behavior moving forward will not be tolerated.
Wilson felt disrespected by an Indiana Fever fan who pointed at her late in Game 2. Wilson was hit with a technical foul. She spoke out about the incident following the game.
“If I see a man come at me, taking steps toward me and pointing at me, I don’t give a damn what you said. I don’t give a damn how you said it, the tone, that is unacceptable,” Wilson said after the game. “You don’t know me to step toward me and point at me. I’m not for that (expletive) at all … That there is unacceptable. How he gets back in the game because they said he didn’t do anything, of course he did.”
But following the game, sports host Doug Kizerian warned Wilson that no matter what the fan said or did, you can’t go into the stands.
“This is absurd. The whole reason players aren’t allowed in stands is so incidents don’t escalate…and nearby fans need to feel safe,” he warned on X.
“Wilson is completely in the wrong, even if hecklers say/do stupid things. But this particular fan didn’t even cross the line – and was not ejected.
“Overall, she’s not authorized to do what she wants and have her own rules of “if I see a man step towards me”. She can’t operate in a vacuum.
Wilson stands by her behavior
“It’s just certain things that I’m not going to allow anymore, because it’s unacceptable,” she said following the Game 2 loss. “You don’t know me at all to come and step toward me and point at me and say anything.”
Game 3 is scheduled for Thursday night at 9 p.m. E.T.
