Chicago Sky guard Dijonai Carrington had a career night after her heated incident with Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham.
Carrington had a statement game in her return to action after her controversial foul on Cunningham on Saturday, which got her ejected.
The 2021 WNBA second-round draftee produced the best scoring output of her career against the Seattle Storm on Monday, finishing with 26 points, six rebounds, one assist and five steals.
The WNBA took notice of this outstanding performance and posted her highlights on their official X account.
“DiJonai was relentless tonight for the @chicagosky 🙌” the league's message read.
Despite her career-high performance, Carrington and the Sky came up short and absorbed a 97-86 loss at Climate Pledge Arena. It was also their 21st defeat of the season.
The former Baylor standout was at the wrong end of the headlines these past few days after she committed a hard foul on Cunningham on a breakaway layup.
This foul led to a hard fall for the Fever guard, and the situation escalated quickly. After a careful review by the referees, Carrington’s foul was upgraded to a Flagrant 2 Foul, warranting an automatic ejection.
Carrington then went on social media to voice her frustration, which added more fuel to the fire.
The 2024 WNBA Most Improved Player winner has also taken note of their next game against Indiana. Carrington is already looking forward to the rematch on Aug. 23.
