Angel Reese has been a key player for the USA in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. But she is not the only Atlanta Dream player thriving in the tournament. Her WNBA teammate, Sika Koné, has been performing well for Mali.
Koné is the second-leading scorer for her national team. She is averaging a double-double of 16.0 points and 10.3 rebounds. Reese, meanwhile, ranks fourth among Team USA scorers, averaging 8.7 points with 6.0 rebounds in just 17.2 minutes per game.
The Dream forward duo has been making their WNBA team proud. They have represented their respective countries well on the world stage.
The Atlanta teammates were seen catching up during the tournament. The WNBA shared the heartfelt moment on Instagram, along with its reaction.
“All roads lead back to Atlanta 🥰,” the caption said. “@atlantadream teammates Angel Reese and Sika Koné link up as World Cup play continues in Berlin!”
Unfortunately, Mali has been officially eliminated after finishing last in Group A with a 1-2 record. Despite that, Koné has made her presence felt, ranking among the tournament’s top 15 scorers so far.
Team USA, meanwhile, swept their group-stage games and will face Belgium in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Reese and Co. have dominated the competition so far, despite narrowly defeating Italy in a close contest. They went 3-0 in the group phase, and are looking to remain undefeated throughout the tournament.
The Americans have a chance to win their fifth straight FIBA World Cup gold medal. They lead the world with 11 titles.
