Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream capped a perfect four-game West Coast road trip Monday night, beating the Los Angeles Sparks 78-71. Allisha Gray led Atlanta with 20 points, while Rhyne Howard added 18 and Naz Hillmon contributed 12. The victory improved the Dream to 25-13, while the Sparks, who were already eliminated from the playoffs, fell to 13-25.
Reese was dominant throughout the night, finishing with 11 points, 26 rebounds, three assists and three steals. The performance marked her 27th double-double of the season and continued an impressive stretch for the forward, who has been one of the biggest reasons behind Atlanta’s playoff push.

Reese pulled down 26 rebounds, breaking Chamique Holdsclaw’s previous WNBA single-game record of 24, set in 2003. She also surpassed Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson’s single-season mark during the game, finishing with 458 rebounds for the season. The WNBA celebrated the achievement on social media:
“HISTORIC NIGHT FROM ANGEL REESE. Not only did she set a new WNBA single-game rebounding record with 26 boards, she also tallied 458 rebounds this szn, a new single-season record!”
The record-breaking night adds another milestone to Reese’s remarkable first season with Atlanta. Acquired from the Chicago Sky during the offseason, Reese has been instrumental in helping the Dream reach the playoffs for a fourth consecutive season. She is averaging 16.1 points and 12.4 rebounds in 37 games and has helped Atlanta establish one of the league’s strongest frontcourts alongside Gray and Howard.
Atlanta currently sits fourth in the WNBA standings, just behind the 26-13 Las Vegas Aces and ahead of the 25-14 Indiana Fever. If the standings remain unchanged, Reese and the Dream would face Caitlin Clark and Indiana in the first round, creating a rematch of last season’s opening-round series that the Fever won.
Atlanta Dream Have Home-Court Advantage Within Reach
The Dream have six regular-season games remaining. They return home Friday to face the Portland Fire before hosting the Minnesota Lynx on Aug. 30. After the league’s World Cup break, Atlanta will play the Connecticut Sun and Chicago at home before finishing the regular season with back-to-back road games against the New York Liberty on Sept. 21 and Sept. 23.
The Dream will secure home court advantage in the first round if they finish as the fourth seed or better.
