Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Fever have been one of the hottest teams in the WNBA right now. They have won four straight games, most recently defeating the Atlanta Dream 95-91 in overtime.
Cunningham continues to be a significant contributor for the team, averaging 8.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists. She is the Fever’s fourth-best scorer behind the Big 3 of Kelsey Mitchell, Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston.
The 30-year-old guard is also second in the league in 3-point shooting percentage (44.5%).
However, Cunningham became the talk of the sports world recently for a different reason. Apparently, her name has been banned from being mentioned in the popular Reddit community r/WNBA.

According to the New York Post, users are not allowed to mention “Cunningham,” “Sophie,” “sc,” “scunningham,” “soph” or “sophiacunningham” in the WNBA subreddit. A moderator also responded to a user who asked about the decision, revealing that they “filter content based on Sophi because it tend to bring out trolls and people that aren’t fans of the W.”

It’s worth noting, however, that the WNBA subreddit is not affiliated with the league in any way. The WNBA issued a statement to clarify that amid the Cunningham controversy.
“The WNBA does not moderate or have any affiliation with the r/WNBA subreddit,” a WNBA spokesperson said, per Meghan L. Hall of USA Today.
Cunningham has yet to address the issue herself. By the looks of it, though, she’s focusing on the Fever and her career off the court. She recently announced a new partnership just a day after she celebrated her birthday.
