Brittney Griner has been sensational for the Connecticut Sun this 2026 WNBA season. She's averaging 13.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.8 blocks per game. Griner leads the Sun in points and blocks, while ranking second in rebounds and fourth in assists.
In the Sun's July 6 game against the Minnesota Lynx, Griner exploded for 29 points on 11-of-14 shooting, along with 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. Connecticut won the game, 90-89.
While the Sun have largely struggled this season, posting only a 5-18 record halfway through the season, Griner has certainly been a bright spot for the team.
Unfortunately, Griner has not played for the Sun since that remarkable performance against the Lynx. She has missed the team's last two games due to a quad injury.

Is Brittney Griner Playing Today in Sun vs. Fire?
The Sun will play the Portland Fire on Tuesday. Naturally, Griner's status is a major talking point. After all, the team needs her if it hopes to start stringing wins together.
In the team's injury report, Griner has been listed as questionable due to a left quad strain. A questionable designation usually means there's a roughly 50/50 chance that a player will suit up for the game.
If Griner ends up missing her third straight game, backup center Olivia Nelson-Ododa is expected to start and take on a heavier workload once again.
It wouldn't be surprising if the Sun take a cautious approach with Griner, especially since she's already 35 years old. Furthermore, quad strains usually take at least a week to recover from.
