The WNBA is giving public praise to Indiana Fever star point guard Caitlin Clark heading into the 30th game of the regular season.
Clark, the clear-cut most popular player in the WNBA, hasn't always been on the receiving end of public praise from the league. She's been snubbed by some graphics and had a low rating in All-Star voting from her fellow players.
But on Sunday, heading into a big showdown between the Indiana Fever and the Minnesota Lynx, the WNBA gave Clark a public shoutout.
"A special talent 😤," the WNBA wrote in a public post on X.
"Third year guard Caitlin Clark is coming off a triple-double performance of 26 PTS, 10 REB, 10 AST vs. the Fire It’s time to lace ‘em up yet again for CC 🏀."
Clark, who likely doesn't mind this kind of shoutout, has admitted to being annoyed and frustrated with the constant media swarm around her in recent years.
No. 1 overall pick sounds off on media coverage
Clark has admitted that it can all be pretty exhausting.
"I think a lot of it is not always based in reality. I feel like media and journalism have a responsibility to tell the stories, and a lot of the time you guys are the ones controlling the narratives about what people read and what people talk about. And a lot of that is sometimes so far out of touch with what is reality. And that can be confusing to somebody that's 24 and trying to navigate life and trying to help her team win a championship," Clark said in an interview with ESPN.
Not everyone agrees, though.
ESPN's Monica McNutt has called for Clark to take more accountability.
"I do think, as she continues to matriculate through this league, there's room for a little more accountability and self awareness, in terms of her role in the larger sisterhood, if she sees it that way, in the WNBA," McNutt said on "Women's Sports Sundays."
Clark and the Fever, meanwhile, will look to continue to avoid distractions and put up wins. Indiana is 19-10 on the year.
