WNBA Fines Fever Coach Stephanie White $500 for Technical Foul Outburst

The WNBA is set to punish head coach Stephanie White of the Indiana Fever.

White was hit with a technical foul on Saturday. She was furious with Caitlin Clark's technical foul against the Chicago Sky. Clark accidentally bumped into a referee and was called for a technical - her eighth of the season. The WNBA ultimately rescinded the technical foul.

However, White was so furious with the initial technical foul, that she complained a lot. She was promptly hit with a technical foul. White is now going to be punished by the WNBA as a result.

As the WNBA’s rules state, a player or a coach’s first three technical fouls each carry a $500 fine. White's technical foul was her second of the season. So, she is set to be fined $500 by the league.

Clark's technical foul was rescinded, so she's still at seven technical fouls. She will not be suspended (not until her next technical foul, at least).

White, meanwhile, defended the refs' flagrant call on DiJonai Carrington

White thought that it was the right call to eject Carrington from the game after her hard hit on Sophie Cunningham.

"Look, it was a hard foul," White said. "It did happen, and I thought it was the right call. One of the things about [Carrington] is that she's going to play her butt off, man. She's going to compete. Nobody's going to go walking in for a layup. I don't oppose the hard foul, but I also don't think that she intentionally went for the neck."

Cunningham, meanwhile, is getting used to this.

"Another day, another dollar," Cunningham said with a smile. "Welcome to my life, boys and girls.

"I wasn't even upset. I mean, I popped up. I'm not going to let anyone just do that to me. I think everyone knows that. I think that's why she did it because she wants attention. I mean, (expletive), like, people have started craving attention. Like go get it somewhere else. Go do something good in the world, I don't know."
