The Indiana Fever fell to the Las Vegas Aces in blowout fashion in Game 1 of their WNBA first round playoff series.
While Sunday’s loss was a tough one for the Fever, it’s been a tough season for the team’s head coach, Stephanie White, who has been dealing with consistent hate and vitriol on social media.
“Nobody likes to be a subject of ugliness from the internet,” she said postgame.
White opened up about the hate she’s received, therapy and more following the tough loss in Game 1.
WNBA fans are feeling for her on Monday
It’s tough to see someone going through this, especially a prominent head coach who has been mostly successful in Indiana.
“This is going to be one of the few times when a team announces a coach stepped down, I’ll actually believe it. She is mentally (in a bad spot),” one fan wrote.
“I think this was two-fold. She is pulling a Neil O’Donnell and Aja is Larry Brown. Oh, I’m not coming back. Bet. I’ll coach them into a loss and Kelsey is going to help me because she is leaving with me. She is conditioning her for the “stepping away” speech. Playing the victim and using the mental health excuse. Instead of game planning, she is talking about fee-fees,” one fan added.
“She needs to stay off the internet,” one fan added.
“Clearly she has never seen the internet after losses by big time franchises…. She can’t handle the size of this job. She was perfect for the Connecticut Sun (she would not work in Houston FYI). But, that was her speed. Fever need a NBA coach and NBA leadership,” one fan added.
Game 2 of the first round playoff series, meanwhile, is set for Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. E.T. It’ll air on Amazon Prime.
