Whether you’re a fan of Sophie Cunningham or not, you can’t deny that she’s unapologetically herself.
During the latest episode of her “No Hesitation” podcast, Cunningham offered her unfiltered thoughts on Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson and her confrontation with an Indiana Fever fan in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series.
Even though Wilson completely lost her composure during this incident, the Fever said the fan didn’t violate their code of conduct. ESPN’s Pat McAfee reported that Wilson was set off by the fan yelling, “That foul is on you.”

Cunningham believes Wilson needs to “grow up” for letting a fan’s comments get to her.
“Us women in sports yell from the rooftops that we want equality. We want to be treated by the men and we want all this stuff,” Cunningham said. “If you’re asking for all these fans to come [support] and you have real sports fans do something that a sports fan would probably do, we’re going to go for them just saying you fouled? Like grow up, what are we doing? We ask all these things and then once people come out and support us, we get mad and then its inappropriate.”
Cunningham then called out the WNBA for refusing to discipline Wilson.
“If you want to get technical, that could’ve called for a suspension,” Cunningham said. “She’s like the LeBron James of our league, and so of course they’re not going to suspend her.”
These comments could backfire on Sophie Cunningham.
While the WNBA ultimately opted against fining or suspending Wilson for her actions, it’s possible Cunningham gets disciplined for airing out the league’s issues.
During the 2025 season, Cunningham was fined $1,500 for criticizing the league’s officiating.
“If I was a ref, I know I would mess up all the time. Like, I’m not saying that your job is easy, but when it is a simple call in front of your face multiple times, what are you doing? What are you doing?” Cunningham said.
Considering Cunningham just took aim at the reigning MVP and questioned how the league handled this situation, we can’t envision a scenario where she avoids a fine here.
As for a potential suspension for the 2027 season, that may be a bit too harsh. And besides, Cunningham’s comments will bring even more attention to the WNBA.
