A “Save Women’s Sports” demonstration took place outside of a WNBA game on Wednesday evening.
“Save Women’s Sports” supporters, who don’t want transgender athletes participating in women’s sports, gathered outside of the Chase Center ahead of the WNBA regular season game between Golden State and Minnesota.
Valkyries head coach Natalie Nakase addressed the demonstration, accusing the supporters of hate speech.
“In the world and just in sports right now, there’s too much hate that’s going on. Too much hate speech. I would highly suggest people lead with love. I love to lead with love,” she said to reporters.
Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve, meanwhile, agreed. She said that people need to “educate themselves” about trans people while declaring “trans kids belong.”
“I don’t want to give them anymore oxygen than they deserve. I have said this before, trans kids belong,” Reeve said.
‘Save Women’s Sports’ supporters respond to criticism from WNBA coaches
XX-XY Athletics, which makes the T-shirts that Sophie Cunningham supporters have been seen wearing at WNBA games, fired back at the WNBA coaches in a social media post on Thursday morning.
They disagree with the coaches.
“Call it “hate” so you don’t have to engage the argument. All the nasty behavior, as always, has only come from one side – the side that supports men in women’s sports. 100% projection. They are intolerant of dissent. They are full of hate,” they wrote back on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The debate surrounding transgender athletes in women’s sports is certainly not going away anytime soon, as both sides seem to be firmly entrenched in their positions.
The 2026 WNBA regular season, meanwhile, continues as we push forward toward the playoffs. It’s been a fun and exciting WNBA season and hopefully the good games will continue moving forward into the playoffs.
