Indiana Fever star Kelsey Mitchell has proven this season that she’s the best scorer in the WNBA today.
Entering the Fever’s final regular-season game on Thursday, against the Minnesota Lynx, Mitchell has recorded 1,076 points. She recently surpassed the single-season record of 1,021 points set by Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson in 2024.
Mitchell has also not scored fewer than 20 points since June, having already extended her WNBA record for 20-point streak to 27 games. The Fever guard is second in the league in points per game (25.0), behind only Wilson (26.0).
Now, Mitchell is also part of a historic first that has never been seen in the WNBA before. This comes after Wilson herself broke through the 1000-point threshold for the second time in her career.

According to the WNBA, it’s the first time in league history that two players have scored more than 1,000 points in the same season.
“Kelsey Mitchell and A’ja Wilson are the first players to eclipse 1,000 PTS in the SAME szn,” the WNBA wrote on social media. “We couldn’t let the regular season end tonight without acknowledging the greatness they displayed scoring the rock.”
Mitchell certainly deserves the recognition she’s getting, especially considering how phenomenal she has been for Indiana throughout her career. This season alone, she’s a big reason why the team was able to secure a playoff spot.
With the way she’s playing right now, it’s also not hard to see Mitchell making more scoring history during the playoffs.
