Russell Westbrook is once again on the free-agent market, and the former MVP has made it clear that he intends to continue playing in the NBA next season.
After starring with the Oklahoma City Thunder for the first 11 years of his career, Westbrook has become one of the league’s biggest journeymen, suiting up for the Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and, most recently, the Sacramento Kings.
Entering his 18th NBA season, it appears the 9-time All-Star guard could be on the move again, with a return to one of those former teams now firmly in play.

According to Monday’s report from “The Stein Line,” Marc Stein and Jake Fischer reported that the Wizards are considering a Westbrook reunion.
“League sources tell The Stein Line that Washington has a level of interest in Russell Westbrook.”
The report comes as the Washington Wizards continue assembling their roster following a busy offseason. The franchise selected AJ Dybantsa with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft and recently signed Trae Young to a four-year, $212 million contract extension that includes a player option in the final season.
Westbrook could provide exactly what Washington lacks behind Young. Last season with Sacramento, the 37-year-old averaged 15.2 points, 6.7 assists and 5.4 rebounds in 64 games, while continuing to earn praise around the league for his veteran leadership. His experience could prove valuable for a young locker room featuring Dybantsa and Bub Carrington, while also giving the Wizards a reliable backup point guard at a relatively modest price.
The Westbrook report surfaced amid growing speculation surrounding Anthony Davis. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that the Golden State Warriors are pursuing a trade for Davis.
However, Washington has repeatedly insisted it wants to keep Davis. General manager Will Dawkins recently noted that the 10-time All-Star wants to remain with the Wizards, while confirming extension discussions are expected to begin in mid-August.
Whether the Wizards ultimately retain Davis or entertain trade offers, adding Westbrook would make sense. He has already played in Washington once before, understands the franchise, and could stabilize the second unit while mentoring one of the NBA’s youngest rosters.
