Wisconsin Badgers star guard John Blackwell has become the top guard in the NCAA's transfer portal.
Blackwell, an All-Big Ten guard who averaged 19.1 points per game last season, will be entering the NCAA's transfer portal. Blackwell will be going through the NBA Draft process, as well. However, it's unlikely that he'll be a top pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
So, Blackwell is likely to transfer and earn a big-time payday through the NCAA's transfer portal this offseason.
ESPN college basketball insider Jeff Borzello first reported the news.
"Wisconsin guard John Blackwell plans to enter the transfer portal while going through the NBA draft process, he told ESPN. Blackwell, who averaged 19.1 points and earned All-Big Ten honors this past season, becomes the best guard in the portal," he reported.
College basketball fans react to Blackwell's transfer plans
It's a big-time move for the Wisconsin Badgers guard.
"Hello," one fan wrote.
"GET ON THE PHONE NATE," one fan added.
"Ok Golden here we go," one fan added.
"Get this man to Keeneland right this second," one fan added.
Blackwell, a junior, averaged 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. He shot 43 percent from the field.
He instantly becomes one of the top available players in the NCAA's transfer portal and, as Borzello noted, probably the top guard overall. Several major programs will be throwing seven-figure offers at the now-former Wisconsin Badgers star.
It'll be interesting to see where he ends up.
