At this point in her career, there is no denying that Chloe Kim has already firmly established herself as one of the greatest snowboarders in the history of the sport.
Kim is currently in her third Winter Olympics stint. She entered the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics as the two-time champion in the halfpipe competition. On Thursday, she made history by becoming the first female athlete to medal in three straight Olympics at the halfpipe.
She came up short of a gold medal, finishing second to 17-year-old South Korean sensation Choi Gaon. Nevertheless, Kim made her mark yet again in the history books.
Despite everything she has achieved in the sport, Kim is still just 25 years old. She started competing at a very young age. She was 17 when she won her first gold at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics.
Kim, however, is well aware of the fact that her snowboarding career will not last forever. In fact, in an interview with Sports Illustrated in January, the three-time World Championships gold medalist opened up about her retirement.
“Chloe Kim has picked out the date she will retire from snowboarding. She won’t reveal exactly when it will be, but says she’s had it in her mind for a really long time,” Michael Rosenberg of Sports Illustrated reported.

Kim said that she is already thinking about her life after snowboarding.
“I am 25 right now,” she said. “I’d love to start a family. My mom had me when she was young. I’d love to be a young mom. My dad’s 70 right now. There’s so much time, but also not enough time.”
Kim is currently in a relationship with Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett. The newly crowned NFL Defensive Player of the Year made the trip to Italy to cheer on his girlfriend. The couple also celebrated Valentine’s Day during the Olympics.
As for her retirement plan, Kim also made it clear that she won’t be changing her mind.
“Once I set my mind to something, then that’s that, and that’s how it’s gonna be,” Kim declared.
While Kim did not reveal the exact date, what is clear is that she is already 100% sure about when she intends to walk away from the sport.
In another interview, Kim praised Choi after the latter’s gold medal victory at the halfpipe. Kim had nothing but high praise for her younger counterpart. The decorated American snowboarder also stated that “the future of snowboarding is in very, very good hands.”
