In Stephanie White’s two seasons so far with the Indiana Fever, she has guided the team to back-to-back top-six finishes in the WNBA. In her first year in 2025, she even led the franchise all the way to the semifinals despite being without Caitlin Clark, pushing the Las Vegas Aces to the full five games before losing the series.
Unfortunately, after the Fever took a step back in 2026 and suffered a first-round exit at the hands of the Aces once again, there have been calls for Indiana to fire the veteran tactician.
During Saturday’s exit interviews, White acknowledged that there’s the possibility that she may not return to her job since it’s up to the team’s front office to make that decision. Nonetheless, she emphasized that she wants to keep coaching the team.

“I feel support from the organization, no doubt about that,” White shared. “You know, at the end of the day, it’s their decision whether I return or not. I’d love the opportunity, I love this franchise, I have always felt support from this franchise, and I hope to continue to be the coach.”
For what it’s worth, Fever general manager Amber Cox didn’t indicate during her exit interview that the team plans to replace White. In fact, she’s looking forward to planning with White and her coaching staff on how to improve next season.
“We’re all going to get in the room and get back to the drawing board, and we’re going to address some of those and make sure that we’re ready to go when next season starts,” Cox stated. “And that includes Steph and the coaching staff.”
Under White’s coaching, the Fever had the best offense in the WNBA in 2026. However, it was on defense where they were lacking, as the team ranked ninth in defensive rating. There were a number of times during the season when Indiana created a huge lead early, only to blow it since they couldn’t make stops.
Sure enough, should the Fever continue with White as their head coach, they will have plenty to address in order to improve the roster.
