Is Lionel Messi Retiring After the World Cup?
Lionel Messi has not officially announced his retirement from international soccer, but he has earlier hinted that the 2026 FIFA World Cup was his final tournament with Argentina.
Before the final, Messi fueled speculation on retirement by wearing custom Adidas boots titled "The Last Tango" and sharing an emotional farewell letter with his Argentina teammates.
While his international future appears to be close to its end, Messi is not retiring from professional soccer. He will be returning to Major League Soccer with Inter Miami, where he remains under contract through the 2028 season.
As for another World Cup appearance, it appears highly unlikely. Messi would be 43 years old when the 2030 FIFA World Cup begins, making another tournament run improbable.
