Roman Reigns is enjoying a good moment of relevance on WWE, but he might not be as important for TKO. Below, we explain the speculation surrounding Reigns’ contract situation.
The OTC dethroned CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42. After being crowned as the new champion, Reigns revealed that fans would see him much more this summer, but it now seems the plans may have changed. Considering recent developments, some fans believe Reigns could be on his way out of WWE.
A big storm broke out when news emerged that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods had been released from the company. Before that, several superstars were released from their contracts, and TKO was the one making the decisions.
Additionally, there has been talk that TKO has asked the Stamford-based promotion to cut millions in salaries. This would mean WWE has to be more careful with how it structures contracts with the remaining roster and how it uses its top stars on television.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Roman Reigns said that his current WWE contract ends in May. There are no public confirmations that his deal has been restructured, and for all we know, he may already have a new agreement in place. Still, the timing of recent changes has led to a lot of speculation among fans.
Roman Reigns Removed From June Shows
Reigns had announced that fans would see him more this summer. He was keeping his word, appearing regularly on the flagship show to build up his match against Jacob Fatu at Backlash.

The company had announced him for all of the June RAW shows, but now the graphic has changed, and the World Heavyweight Champion is no longer announced for any of the June shows, until Night of Champions on June 27, 2026. He is still announced for the remaining shows in May 2026.
With TKO looking to cut costs and Reigns’ current contract reportedly ending in May, fans have connected the dots and started to wonder what his future holds. However, there are no confirmed reports that his contract has been restructured or that negotiations have broken down; at this point, it is mostly speculation based on his schedule and his own comments about his deal.
WWE already has a match scheduled for Reigns at Backlash 2026. He will put the World Heavyweight Championship on the line at the premium live event.
At Backlash, The Samoan Werewolf could dethrone The OTC, freeing him from any responsibility as champion. This would allow Reigns to leave the company or simply step back, without WWE having to invent a new angle to take the World Heavyweight Championship away from The OTC. For now, though, nothing is officially confirmed about his long-term status with WWE beyond what Reigns himself has said: his contract ends in May.
