The Los Angeles Dodgers’ 9-3 win over the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday carried historic significance beyond the result, yet another victory in the Dodgers' 56-win count this season.

By leading his team to a win, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts recorded his 1,000th career victory, becoming the fastest manager in MLBhistory to reach the milestone.

Roberts reached 1,000 wins in 1,606 games, surpassing Cap Anson, who needed 1,641 games.

The win made Roberts the 69th manager in league history to reach 1,000 victories, but he's the first one to reach that figure in just 12 years of managing, with everybody else at his level or higher in the all-time least spending at least 13 years in MLB dugouts.

“I know people say the word surreal a lot, but it is surreal,” Roberts said. “Because you take a step back and look at the body of work, it’s been a fun ride. It really has. And I do think that I am taking this night and enjoying the moment, because there’s a lot of people that contributed, obviously. So that’s what I’m more grateful for.”

Roberts has managed the Dodgers since 2016, with this season marking his 11th at the ballclub and 12th overall. During that span, the Dodgers have won nine division titles, five National League pennants, and three World Series titles.

“That’s a long time of consistent winning,” Roberts said. “To kind of put your head down and look back and go, ‘Oh my god, I’m here,’ it’s mind-blowing.”

The Dodgers started to secure Tuesday's win early, as they took a first-inning lead and extended it with a three-run home run by Tommy Edman in the third inning. Edman finished with four hits and four RBIs.

Justin Wrobleski pitched seven innings, allowing three runs while striking out a career-high 11 batters.

The victory improved the Dodgers’ record to 56-30, with Los Angeles having now won 11 of its last 14 games and sitting atop the NL West 12 games above the second-place San Diego Padres.
