WWE and Triple H announced Thursday morning that Bad News Brown will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2026 as part of the Legacy Wing.

A former Olympic judoka turned professional wrestler, Brown—real name Allen Coage—competed in Stampede Wrestling and later in World Wrestling Federation throughout the late 1980s and early ’90s.

Despite sharing the ring with icons like Roddy Piper, Randy Savage, and Hulk Hogan, Brown remains a lesser-known figure to many modern fans—largely due to his relatively brief WWE run, which ended after SummerSlam 1990.

Now, 36 years after his final WWE appearance, Brown will be honored with a Legacy Wing induction, recognizing his impact on the business despite his short tenure.

Brown’s Exit and Dispute with McMahon

According to James Guttman in his book World Wrestling Insanity Presents: Shoot First... Ask Questions Later, Brown’s departure stemmed from a broken promise. He claimed Vince McMahon assured him he would become the first Black WWF Champion—a milestone that never materialized.

Guttman, who interviewed Brown prior to his death in 2007, wrote that Coage believed he had been “guaranteed” a world title run. When that opportunity failed to come to fruition, it reportedly caused significant strain on both him and his family, ultimately leading to his exit.

What Is the WWE Legacy Wing?

The Legacy Wing, introduced in 2016, allows WWE to honor performers from earlier eras without dedicating full ceremony segments. While inductees do not typically receive extended speeches, WWE has started inviting family members to attend and accept the recognition on their behalf.

When Is the 2026 WWE Hall of Fame?

The 2026 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony is scheduled for Friday, April 17 at Dolby Live in Las Vegas, with tickets still available.

The class will be headlined by Stephanie McMahon and AJ Styles, and will also include Dennis Rodman and Demolition.
