Tyler O'Neill became the first Baltimore Orioles player to homer in three consecutive plate appearances since Ryan Mountcastle did it on June 19, 2021 against the Toronto Blue Jays, according to Birdland Insider.
O'Neill homered twice Wednesday night against the Chicago Cubs at Camden Yards, including a pinch-hit solo shot off Drew Pomeranz in the seventh inning and another off Caleb Thielbar in the eighth, with the streak spanning across games. The Orioles lost 9-7 but O'Neill's power surge gave Baltimore four home runs on the evening.
The last time an Oriole achieved the feat was Mountcastle's June 2021 breakout, when he went 4-for-4 with three home runs and four RBIs against Toronto in his first three at-bats. It was one of the better individual performances of a difficult stretch for that Orioles team.
Mountcastle's three homers came off Alek Manoah twice and reliever Anthony Kay. It was the first three-homer game by an Orioles rookie since Nick Markakis in 2006 and the 28th such game in franchise history at the time.
O'Neill, 31, is in his second season with Baltimore after signing a three-year, $49.5 million deal in December 2024. He has operated in a right-handed platoon role in 2026 and missed time earlier in the season after suffering a concussion. He was originally drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the third round of the 2013 MLB Draft before being traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in 2017.

He won two Gold Glove awards with the Cardinals and posted a career-best 34 home runs in 2021. He joined the Orioles after a one-year stop with the Boston Red Sox in 2024.
The Orioles are 42-51 and fifth in the American League East. Baltimore hosts the Cubs in Thursday's series finale at Camden Yards, looking to avoid a sweep heading into the All-Star break.
