Randy Orton’s career has gone through plenty of highs and lows, but his relationship with Kim Orton has remained a constant in his life. The couple first met at a WWE event in 2012, and what started with Orton spotting Kim in the crowd eventually became a marriage and a blended family of five children.
Kim, whose maiden name is Kimberly Marie Kessler, was already a wrestling fan when she met Orton. She attended the event with her three sons and had previously been a member of Orton’s fan club. Their first meeting quickly turned into a relationship, and Orton later proposed during a vacation in Bora Bora. They married in Las Vegas on November 14, 2015.
How Kim Orton Helped Randy Through His Career Crisis
The timing of their relationship is important when looking at the changes in Orton’s life. “The Viper” had already established himself as one of WWE’s biggest stars, but his 2022 back injury created the biggest threat yet to his wrestling career.
Orton underwent spinal fusion surgery after severe lower-back problems left him dealing with nerve pain and numbness. He was away from WWE from May 2022 until his return at Survivor Series in November 2023. During that period, he spent months believing that his career was finished. Multiple doctors had initially told him that he was done before he eventually found Dr. Adam Kanter and a medical team willing to perform the procedure.
The physical recovery was only part of the battle. Orton later revealed that he suffered panic attacks, struggled to fly and had difficulty sleeping while trying to deal with the possibility of losing the career that had defined him.
Speaking to Stephanie McMahon on “What’s Your Story?” in 2025, “The Viper” directly credited Kim with recognizing what was happening.
“I’ve got a wife and five kids and luckily I was able to kind of nip it in the bud quick. She saw it happening,” Orton said. He subsequently received treatment for anxiety and depression.
Orton also made clear how important Kim was during that period, saying, “I had my wife, but I didn’t talk to really anybody about it… and then Kim would help the most.”
That is where the idea of Kim “saving” Orton’s career carries real weight. She did not perform the surgery that brought him back to the ring, but she helped him through the mental battle surrounding it.
Randy Orton and Kim’s Blended Family
The couple’s family includes five children. “The Apex Predator” has a daughter, Alanna Marie, from his previous marriage, while Kim brought three sons, Michael, Robbie and Anthony, into the relationship. They later welcomed their daughter, Brooklyn Rose, in November 2016.
Kim has also built a career of her own. She launched the SLTHR clothing brand, inspired by Orton’s “The Viper” persona, and previously co-hosted “The Wives of Wrestling” podcast.
More than a decade after they first met, Kim remains an important part of Orton’s life. And when the 14-time world champion talks about the period when he thought wrestling was over, her role in helping him through it is difficult to overlook.
