The youngest player in the USMNT for the 2026 World Cup is Alex Freeman, who currently plays for Villarreal in Spain.
Freeman has a couple of caps for the USMNT and made his debut for the national team last year. His first major tournament for the United States was the 2025 Gold Cup, where he was the youngest player in that squad, too.
His professional debut was with Orlando City in the MLS in 2023, but his breakout year was in 2025, when he made the MLS All-Stars.
A curious fact about Freeman is that he chose soccer over other sports like American football and basketball.
People who know Freeman would have assumed that he would pursue professional American football to follow the footsteps of his father, Antonio Freeman, who is a Hall of Famer for the Green Bay Packers.

Who is Alex Freeman's Father, Antonio Freeman?
Antonio Freeman was a wide receiver in the NFL, and he played most of his career with the Green Bay Packers. He played six years for the Packers.
Antonio Freeman was a part of the Green Bay Packers team that won the 1997 Super Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana, defeating the New England Patriots 35-21. Antonio Freeman is in the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame.
Antonio Freeman told ESPN that he expected his son to play other sports other than soccer, but his son constantly played soccer as he started growing up.
Antonio Freeman said, "I had dreams of coaching him in football and basketball and showing him how to shoot a 3-pointer, make a pump fake, and different things. But his joy was on that soccer field, and when he became a teenager, he just played more and more soccer. It was soccer every day, all day."
Alex Freeman is constantly supported by his family, including his father, and does not seem to be in a relationship based on his social media.
