The Baltimore Orioles added pitching depth before Monday's MLB trade deadline, sending outfielder Taylor Ward to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for three right-handed pitchers. Orioles beat writer Jacob Calvin Meyer first reported the return package, which includes Alex Hoppe, Brock Moore and Harrison Kreiling.
Baltimore entered the deadline looking toward the future after slipping to 54-58 and fourth place in the American League East. The move gives the organization three arms at different stages of development while moving an impending free agent.
The Orioles also remain 2.5 games behind the final American League Wild Card spot, but the front office opted to strengthen its pitching pipeline with the deadline deal.
Ward departs Baltimore after appearing in 111 games this season, batting .246 with 20 doubles, seven home runs, 30 RBIs and an American League-leading 87 walks. With free agency approaching after the season, the Orioles elected to move the veteran before the deadline.
Hoppe is the most experienced player in the return package. The 27-year-old rookie made 24 appearances for Seattle this season, posting a 5.79 ERA while recording a 27.6% strikeout rate out of the bullpen.
Moore adds another power arm after pitching at Double-A, where he paired an upper-90s fastball that has reached 100 mph with a 5.56 ERA. Kreiling, meanwhile, recently returned from Tommy John surgery and impressed with a 2.08 ERA during his rookie ball assignment.

The three-pitcher package gives Baltimore additional organizational depth as it continues reshaping its roster. Hoppe provides immediate bullpen experience, while Moore and Kreiling offer longer-term upside within the farm system.
For Seattle, the trade addresses an offense that has struggled throughout the season. Ward's on-base ability gives the Mariners another experienced bat as they continue their pursuit of a postseason berth.
