The Chicago White Sox are nearing the return of another important arm as they continue their push for the American League Central title.
The updates were reported by James Fegan on X following comments from Manager Will Venable that right-hander Davis Martin is set to begin a rehab assignment after being sidelined by a blister on his pitching hand. Martin was placed on the 15-day injured list Aug. 14 after leaving his previous start against the Cincinnati Reds.
The 29-year-old managed only two innings in that outing before allowing three earned runs and exiting because of the blister.
Martin has been one of the White Sox’s more valuable starters this season. Through 24 starts, he has gone 9-6 with a 4.32 ERA and 1.33 WHIP across 125 innings, recording 111 strikeouts against 39 walks.
His upcoming rehab assignment will give the White Sox an opportunity to see how the blister responds under game conditions before bringing him back to the rotation.
Venable also provided an update on Erick Fedde, who has resumed throwing after the club recently adjusted his usage. Fedde worked as a bulk reliever behind Bryan Hudson on Tuesday against the Chicago Cubs and delivered 4.2 scoreless innings.

Fedde allowed three hits and two walks while striking out five in that appearance. He remains healthy and could make another appearance in either a starting or bulk-relief role.
The timing of the pitching updates is significant for Chicago. The White Sox entered Thursday leading the AL Central at 66-60, with the Minnesota Twins four games behind.
Getting Martin back into the rotation would give Venable another established option for the final stretch of the regular season. Fedde’s flexibility could also help the club manage its pitching staff as the division race tightens.
