The August 3 MLB trade deadline is just three days away and every contender is still looking to upgrade its roster.
One of those teams is the AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox who are seeking pitching help.
The White Sox were among the teams that planned on scouting Freddy Peralta's expected final start with the New York Mets on Friday night at Citi Field against the Miami Marlins. However, Peralta was scratched from his outing five hours before first pitch with interest from other teams increasing, and to avoid the risk of injury or poor performance.
Contending teams believe they can fix Peralta down the stretch after he struggled with the Mets this season, posting a 5-9 record and 4.99 ERA in 22 starts. Peralta, who the Mets acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers for two top prospects in the offseason, will be a free agent after the 2026 campaign ends.
In addition to Peralta, the White Sox have their eyes on a number of Mets' relief pitchers, as well as New York's current opponent's relievers in the Marlins.
The Mets already traded left-hander A.J. Minter to the Minnesota Twins on Thursday evening for prospects Billy Amick and Bruin Agbayani. Their other trade chips in the bullpen include lefty rental Brooks Raley, Luke Weaver (under control for $11 million in 2027) and Huascar Brazoban (under control through 2029).
As for the Marlins, their only reliever on an expiring contract is closer Pete Fairbanks. But they do have other attractive pieces in their bullpen such as Anthony Bender (under control in 2027) and John King (one more year left of control).

The White Sox are casting a wide net when it comes to their search for pitching. That includes both arms on expiring deals and pitchers with multiple years of control left.
Their rotation enters play on Friday ranked 17th in baseball with a 4.31 ERA, so there's room for improvement there. Chicago's bullpen carried a 3.85 ERA (12th in MLB) into the day, but they could use another high-leverage reliever at least.
The 57-51 White Sox lead the AL Central by two games over the Cleveland Guardians.
