During a recent appearance on Foul Territory, MLB insider Bob Nightengale reported that Chicago has interest in starting pitcher Clay Holmes as the club explores ways to strengthen its rotation for the second half.
General manager Chris Getz is expected to approach the deadline aggressively, though Nightengale noted the White Sox are unlikely to sacrifice their top prospects unless the return is viewed as a long-term upgrade.
Holmes has successfully transitioned into a starting role and has emerged as one of the more intriguing names on the trade market. His experience and durability could provide another dependable arm alongside Chicago's current rotation as the club looks to maintain its position atop the American League Central.
Adding another proven starter would also help ease the workload on younger pitchers such as Davis Martin and Sean Burke during the stretch run.
The White Sox have been one of baseball's biggest surprises this season after completing a dramatic turnaround from recent rebuilding years. They entered play with a 52-46 record, holding first place in the AL Central by one game over the Cleveland Guardians.
