The Buffalo Bills didn’t waste much time making a splash this offseason, pulling off a headline-grabbing move to bring in DJ Moore. It’s the kind of trade that instantly upgrades a passing attack and gives Josh Allen another elite weapon to work with.
But as exciting as the move is, it also comes with a financial reality. Moore’s arrival means the Bills now have a significant chunk of their salary cap tied up in the wide receiver room. That naturally raises an interesting question: with this new addition on the books, just how high does Buffalo now rank among the NFL teams spending the most on wide receivers?
For Bengals fans, this might sting a little. Cincinnati Bengals currently sit at the very top of the league when it comes to money tied up in wide receivers. Their WR room carries a massive $63.5 million cap hit this season after handing big contracts to Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins last year.
Right behind them now are the Buffalo Bills, who jumped up the list after bringing in DJ Moore. Buffalo’s receiver group now sits at around $59.4 million against the cap, with Moore joining players like Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman.

The Dallas Cowboys round out the top three with a $56.7 million cap hit, thanks largely to big deals for CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.
A closer look at the DJ Moore trade
The financial commitment tied to DJ Moore is a big part of why the move by the Buffalo Bills is drawing so much attention. Moore’s deal carries a sizable cap impact, including a notable $15.5 million guaranteed salary in 2028 when he’ll be entering his age-31 season. By taking on that structure, Buffalo is clearly signaling long-term belief in the receiver.
On top of the contract itself, the Bills also paid a meaningful price in draft capital, sending a 2026 second-round pick (No. 60 overall) to the Chicago Bears while receiving a 2026 fifth-rounder in return. When you combine the contract commitments with the draft cost, the trade represents a significant investment in the wide receiver position.
It’s a move that pushes Buffalo’s spending at the position toward the top tier of the league and shows the front office is willing to dedicate major financial resources to upgrade the offense around quarterback Josh Allen. Whether or not it pays off, we will find out in a few months time.
