Myles Garrett’s first season with the Los Angeles Rams has already been interrupted by a knee injury. The star pass rusher played through the issue in the season opener against the San Francisco 49ers but was not the same player the Rams expected after acquiring him from the Cleveland Browns.
Garrett finished that game without a tackle or sack despite recording five quarterback pressures. He played 62% of Los Angeles’ defensive snaps before the team decided surgery was necessary.
The Rams placed Garrett on injured reserve following the procedure, guaranteeing that he would miss at least four games.

Garrett is expected to need about six weeks to recover from knee surgery, ESPN’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday.
The updated timeline would make Week 9 against the Washington Commanders on Nov. 8 the most likely return date, although Garrett reportedly hopes to return sooner.
The Rams initially left the timeline open. Head coach Sean McVay previously said Garrett could potentially return after four weeks but stopped short of confirming an exact date (h/t Rams staff reporter Stu Jackson).
Garrett dealt with knee swelling throughout training camp and missed most of the preseason. He underwent surgery after the Rams returned from their Melbourne trip. The two-time Defensive Player of the Year was placed on IR as the team hoped to address the injury properly.
If the six-week recovery timeline holds, Garrett would miss games against the Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills and potentially the Arizona Cardinals before returning against Washington. The Rams acquired him to strengthen their pass rush, but they will now have to wait several more weeks for their marquee defensive addition to return.
