The Philadelphia Eagles will be traveling across the ocean to play their next game, as they’re set to face the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, England in Week 5.
International games are nothing new for the NFL, as there are several every year, but the Eagles haven’t had to cross the pond too often.
Eagles 1-0 All-Time in Games in London
The upcoming game against the Jaguars will be just the second time ever that the Eagles play a regular season game in London. Ironically enough, their first-ever London game also came against the Jaguars.
That game occurred on Oct. 28, 2018, and Philadelphia pulled out a 24-18 victory over Jacksonville. Eagles QB Carson Wentz threw for 286 yards, 3 TDs and an interception in the game, while Jags QB Blake Bortles tallied 286 yards and a touchdown. Jordan Matthews was Philadelphia’s leading receiver in the game (93 yards), while Josh Adams was the leading rusher (61 yards).
Philadelphia’s only other international regular season game came against the Green Bay Packers in Sao Paulo, Brazil in Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season. The Eagles won that game 34-29, and they would go on to win the Super Bowl that season.
Philadelphia has also played four international preseason games, most recently in 1993 in Tokyo, Japan against New Orleans, according to the team’s website.
Eagles’ Travel Plans for London
The Eagles’ are employing an interesting travel plan for London, as they don’t plan to leave until Friday for their Sunday afternoon kickoff. It won’t give the team long to get acclimated to life in London, but head coach Nick Sirianni thinks it’s in the team’s best interest.
“We felt like leaving Friday was best for our team, this team, and with the schedule that we have with the weeks coming up,” Sirianni said. “At the end of the day, I got to make those decisions, and this is the decision I chose, with the help of great people. . . We’re trying to get a full week’s worth of practice in before we go up there.”
Will this plan work in Philly’s favor, or backfires? Time will tell.
