Naomi Osaka and rapper Cordae appeared to have built a strong relationship away from the spotlight. However, their romance ultimately came to an end after nearly six years together.
The 4-time Grand Slam winner officially confirmed their split on January 6, 2025, thus ending months of speculation about the couple.
Although they parted ways, Osaka has indicated there was no public animosity between her and Cordae, especially regarding their daughter Shai.
When Did Naomi Osaka and Cordae Break Up?
Osaka and Cordae were first spotted together in 2019, when they attended an LA Clippers game. Both kept their relationship under wraps and earlier Cordae said that they didn’t want to make “intimate” moments public.
In July 2023, they welcomed their daughter Shai, bringing their relationship to another level. After giving birth, Osaka then sat out of professional tennis before rejoining in 2024.

Osaka officially announced the end of the romance in January 2025. There was not one bit of bad blood, she wrote, and she said Cordae was “a great person” and “awesome dad.”
She also spoke about how she felt about their relationship, stating that her daughter was her “biggest blessing” and that she was thankful that their lives had crossed paths.

What Happened to Their Daughter Shai?
Osaka and Cordae have split up, but Shai is still the main link between the two. There is no reliable public evidence of a custody battle or contentious custody arrangement, and neither parent has made any public announcement that they’re going to court over their daughter.
Rather, the public focus has been directed toward co-parenting and towards keeping Shai’s life private.
Motherhood has also drastically altered Osaka’s attitude towards her tennis career. In an interview ahead of the 2026 U.S. Open, she said, “I think people forget my main job is to be a mom, tennis is my ‘side hustle.’”
In 2026, Osaka seems to be emphasizing motherhood and resuming her tennis career. Their union has come to an end but their togetherness as Shai’s parents still brings them together as co-parents.
