The Philadelphia Eagles made a major decision regarding star quarterback Jalen Hurts.
On Saturday, the Eagles officially placed Hurts on the injured reserve list due to a superficial blood clot in his calf. It remains to be seen when, of if, Hurts will be able to return to the field this season, but his addition to the IR list means that he’ll be sidelined for Philadelphia’s next four games, at least. Let’s look at which games Hurts is now guaranteed to miss.
Jalen Hurts to Miss Eagles’ Next Four Games, At Least
When a player is added to the injured reserve list, they must sit out for a minimum of four games. Coincidentally, the Eagles have four games left before their bye week, so Hurts will miss all of those games, and then the team will re-assess the situation over the bye week.
Here’s what Philadelphia’s upcoming schedule looks like:
- Week 6: Carolina Panthers (Home)
- Week 7: Dallas Cowboys: (Home, Monday Night Football)
- Week 8: Washington Commanders (Road)
- Week 9: New York Giants (Home)
- Week 10: Bye Week
Three out of those four games come against division opponents in the Cowboys, Commanders and Giants, and they could go a long way towards determining how the seeding in the NFC East ultimately plays out this season.
If the Eagles are able to pull out a couple wins over that stretch, it could potentially work to keep them in the playoff picture in the NFC while they wait to see what the future holds for Hurts in terms of availability. But, if they continue to stack losses, their playoff hopes might already be gone by the time Hurts could potentially return.
When is the Earliest we Could see Jalen Hurts on the Field Again?
After Hurts misses Philadelphia’s next four games, which are followed by the bye, the earliest that we could possibly see him out on the field again would be at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 11 on Nov. 22. But, we’ll have to wait and see if he’ll be cleared to play at that point.
Hurts’ health is obviously the main concern in the whole situation, as blood cots are nothing to take lightly. However long it takes for him to get right, it takes. The Eagles will just have to try to remain afloat in the meantime.
