The No. 2 Notre Dame Fighting Irish face the No. 8 BYU Cougars in one of the biggest games of the 2026 college football regular season.
Notre Dame enters the game 6-0 after dominating Stanford 58-7 last week. The Fighting Irish have scored at least 40 points in four games this season and will look to maintain their unbeaten record against a BYU team that has also started strongly.
The Cougars are 5-0 following a 24-10 win over Iowa State. Playing at home, BYU will have an opportunity to earn a statement victory against a Notre Dame team that has won seven of the nine all-time meetings between the programs.

Notre Dame vs. BYU Game Overview
Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr has thrown for 1,378 yards and 16 touchdowns with one interception this season. He completed 14 of 20 passes for 181 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Stanford. Freshman running back Jonaz Walton also impressed last week, rushing for 181 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries, including a 97-yard scoring run.
BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier is coming off one of his strongest performances of the season. He threw for 329 yards and two touchdowns against Iowa State while adding 109 rushing yards. His ability to make plays through the air and on the ground will be important against the Fighting Irish.
The Cougars will be without running back LJ Martin, who is expected to miss four to six weeks with a lower-body injury. His absence puts additional pressure on Bachmeier and the remaining rushing options as BYU takes on its toughest opponent to date.
Saturday’s game marks the 10th meeting between the programs. Notre Dame won their most recent encounter, 28-20, in the 2022 Shamrock Series in Las Vegas.
